Is There Really A Cover-up?
Last weeek, former referee Tim Donaghy stated that there was a ref that fixed a certain Game 6 to ensure a Game 7 in a specific 2002 Western Conference Finals with los Angeles Lakers and the Sacramento Kings (or queens if you're Shaq). But, NBA Commisioner David Stern said that it was a baseless statement. It was a ploy for Tim to get less jail time. I don't believe David Stern as far as I can throw him and I'm not one for conspiracy theories. But just follow me on this: After 23 retired, the ratings for the NBA Finals were going down, The Lakers had just won 2 titles and were the top selling jerseys at the time. Wouldn't you want your moneymaker visible at whatever cost? It's like the old saying: " If it ain't broke, then don't fix it".There should be an independent company to investigate these claims. This the Federal government indicting Mr. Donaghy and not the Sherrif in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. However, that is too much like right and it is not going to occcur because David Stern believes that he is the all-seeing, all-knowing being of the NBA. That foolish pride is not going to get you anywhere. There bet not be a cover-up or my next blog will be entitled, "David Stern Is A Big, Fat Liar".
